It provides better compression performance maintaining the same level of the compression ratio in comparison with zlib, which, at the moment, is the only compression method available. The performance test results: Test compresses and decompresses qemu qcow2 image with just installed rhel-7.6 guest. Image cluster size: 64K. TransMac not getting my flash drive bootable? I do whatever's needed, 'Format Disk for Mac', 'Restore with Disk Image' but when it's finished and I go ahead and reboot, the flash drive isn't in the bootables menus. Oct 07, 2015 One of my favorite improvements in El Capitan is the new LZFSE compression algorithm, which is available directly to apps as well as via a new disk image format. The new.dmg format is not accessible in Disk Utility, but I’ve added support for it in DropDMG 3.2.8. Here are some benchmarks I made imaging a 11.28 GB boot partition on a MacBook Air. Copy files to Mac HFS+ disks and dmg images. Format as HFS+ for Mac. Save and restore images of disks and flash drives. Create, compress, expand and split dmg files. This is a reference C implementation of the LZFSE compressor introduced in theCompression library with OS X 10.11 and iOS 9.

LZFSE is a Lempel-Ziv style data compression algorithm using Finite State Entropy coding. It targets similar compression rates at higher compression and decompression speed compared to deflate using zlib.

Building on OS X

Produces the following files in /tmp/lzfse.dst:

Use theutility 'ShowAllFiles').5. Open (mount) InstallESD.dmg, located along the path of 'Install.app / Contents / SharedSupport /'4. Installesd.dmg disk utility high sierra basesystem. Run Disk Utility and expand BaseSystem.dmg on the flash drive formatted GUID (the 'Options') and Mac OS coffee (HFS +)6. From the contents of the OS X Install ESD open (mount) BaseSystem.dmg(default BaseSystem.dmg Basesystem.chunklist and hidden. Copy the folder OS X Install ESD / Packages folder on the flash drivein the / System / Installation / replacing the file alias Packages.6.

Building on Linux

Tested on Ubuntu 15.10 with gcc 5.2.1 and clang 3.6.2. Should work on any recent distribution.

Disk Utility User Guide

Supported

You can convert the image format and encryption of a disk image.

For example, if you create a read/write disk image but later want to prevent changes to the image, you can convert it to one of the read-only disk image formats.

  1. In the Disk Utility app on your Mac, choose Images > Convert, select the disk image file you want to convert, then click Open.

  2. Click the Image Format pop-up menu, then choose a new image format.

    • Read-only: The disk image can’t be written to, and is quicker to create and open.

    • Compressed: Compresses data, so the disk image is smaller than the original data. The disk image is read-only.

    • Read/write: Allows you to add files to the disk image after it’s created.

    • DVD/CD master: Can be used with third-party apps. It includes a copy of all sectors of the disk image, whether they’re used or not. When you use a master disk image to create other DVDs or CDs, all data is copied exactly.

    • Hybrid image (HFS+/ISO/UDF): This disk image is a combination of disk image formats and can be used with different file system standards, such as HFS, ISO, and UDF.

  3. If you want to change the encryption, click the Encryption pop-up menu, then choose an encryption type.

  4. Enter a new name for the image in the Save As field, click Save, then click Done.
